Example 1: Single-story house exterior walls (perimeter 32 m × height 2.7 m)
Area 32 × 2.7 = 86.4 m². 10% waste → 95.04 m². Sheets = ceil(95.04 ÷ 2.9768) = 32. Weight: 32 × 31 = 992 kg. Nails ≈ 32 × 59 = 1,888. Order 2,000 nails (a little extra for rim and header nailing).
Example 2: Gable roof deck (30° pitch, plan area 72 m²)

What is the difference between OSB and plywood?
OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is engineered wood made by compressing wood strands in alternating cross directions under adhesive and heat. Plywood uses thin peeled veneers cross-laminated. Structural performance (stiffness, shear strength) is comparable, but OSB is typically 10–20% cheaper. Plywood edges are slightly more resistant to moisture swelling. Both are accepted as structural sheathing in light-frame codes (NDS, IRC, KDS 41 33 02).
When should I use 11 mm vs 18 mm OSB?

Is OSB suitable for exterior walls in wet climates?
Structural OSB rated Exposure 1 or Exposure 2 withstands limited, short-term moisture exposure during construction. For long-term exterior use, OSB wall sheathing must be covered with a Weather-Resistant Barrier (WRB / housewrap) immediately. Prolonged direct rain exposure causes OSB edges to swell, delaminate, and lose structural integrity.
How do I convert roof pitch to slope area?
Slope area = plan area ÷ cos(pitch angle in degrees). Common conversions: 6/12 pitch (26.6°) → multiply plan area by 1.118; 8/12 (33.7°) → 1.202; 12/12 (45°) → 1.414. Hip roofs require calculating each face separately.
Can I use screws instead of nails for OSB sheathing?
Structural sheathing standards (IRC R602.3, NDS) are based on nails (ring-shank or common) because nails provide better lateral shear capacity in dynamic loading (wind, seismic). Screws may be inferior in shear transfer for diaphragm applications. The nail count in this tool is based on IRC nailing schedules. Follow your structural engineer's fastener specification.
