Destination
Maisan
Maisan, in Jinan, North Jeolla, takes its name from two rock peaks rising side by side like a horse's ears. Amid otherwise soil-covered hills, only these two stand exposed in pale grey stone, recognisable at a distance in a single glance. Their surfaces are pocked as though studded with pebbles — because the mountain is conglomerate, gravel cemented into rock.

Food
Makguksu
Makguksu is a Gangwon dish of buckwheat noodles served cold, either tossed with sauce or in broth. The mak in its name is usually read as "just now" — buckwheat noodles, unlike wheat, break apart if left standing, so they have to be eaten as soon as they are extruded. It is often compared to naengmyeon, but where naengmyeon is a refined urban dish, makguksu is closer to how mountain communities actually ate buckwheat.

Korean residence certificates will simply say 'household member' or 'cohabitant' — effective October 2026
Under amendments to the Enforcement Decree and Rules of the Resident Registration Act, previewed by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in November 2025, the relationship-to-householder field on residence certificates will be simplified: family other than the spouse becomes 'household member', and everyone else becomes 'cohabitant'. The aim is to stop documents from revealing more about a family than necessary, particularly in remarried households. The ministry has announced October 2026, and the national law database records the amended provisions as taking effect on 29 October 2026.
