Korean wide-format wallpaper (paper/silk) is 106cm wide × 15.6m long (~16.5m² coverage); imported rolls are 53cm × 10m (~5.3m² coverage). Pattern-match (repeat) installs raise the loss rate to 20% from extra trimming. Glue is estimated at ~1kg per roll (base + finish layer).
What this tool does
The wallpaper calculator instantly computes the number of rolls needed — for paper, silk, or imported wallpaper — plus the glue required, from wall area alone. Korean wide-format rolls (paper and silk) measure 106cm wide by 15.6m long, covering about 16.5m² per roll, while imported rolls measure 53cm by 10m, covering only about 5.3m² per roll — so the same wall area can need very different roll counts depending on the type you choose. On top of that, the tool applies a loss rate for trimming and seam waste: 10% for plain wallpaper with no pattern, rising to 20% for pattern-match (repeat) installs, since matching the pattern across seams means cutting away more material at set intervals. You can enter wall area directly or derive it from room perimeter × ceiling height, so it's easy to get a number even without measuring every wall with a tape. Glue is estimated at about 1kg per roll based on a typical base-layer-plus-finish install, so the tool gives you a complete materials picture for ordering from a wallpaper supplier or planning a DIY job without over- or under-buying.
Who uses this
- Estimate roll count for a room or living room before moving or remodeling
- Compare required quantity across paper, silk, and imported wallpaper types
- Order with the correct loss rate applied for pattern-match (repeat) installs
- Check glue quantity needed when preparing a DIY wallpapering job
- Pre-calculate quantity before verifying a wallpaper contractor's quote
How to use
- 1Choose an area input method — 'Enter wall area directly' if you know it, or 'Perimeter × height' if you don't.
- 2Select the wallpaper type (paper, silk, or imported) and whether it's a pattern-match (repeat) install.
- 3The roll count, coverage per roll, loss rate, and glue quantity appear instantly.
Roll count & glue formula
Area incl. loss (m²) = wall area × (1 + loss rate) Rolls needed = ceil(area incl. loss / coverage per roll) Glue (kg) = rolls needed × 1kg Roll size & coverage: Korean wide-format (paper/silk) — 106cm×15.6m, ~16.5m²/roll Imported — 53cm×10m, ~5.3m²/roll Loss rate: no pattern 10%, pattern-match (repeat) 20%
Real examples
Example 1: Silk wallpaper, 16.5m², no pattern
18.15m² incl. 10% loss. At 16.5m²/roll, 2 rolls needed. Glue: 2kg.
Example 2: Imported wallpaper, 16.5m², no pattern
18.15m² incl. 10% loss. At 5.3m²/roll, 4 rolls needed. Glue: 4kg.
Frequently asked questions
Why do Korean and imported rolls cover such different areas?
Korean wide-format paper/silk rolls are 106cm wide by 15.6m long, giving broad coverage per roll, while imported rolls are only 53cm wide by 10m long — about a third of the coverage. The same wall area needs far more rolls if you choose imported wallpaper.
Why is the loss rate higher for pattern-match (repeat) installs?
Patterned wallpaper has to be cut at set intervals so the design lines up across seams, which wastes more material than plain wallpaper. This tool applies 10% for plain and 20% for pattern-match installs.
How should I measure the wall area?
Multiply the total wall perimeter you're papering by the ceiling height for an approximate area. Door and window openings are generally absorbed within the loss margin, so you usually don't need to subtract them separately. For more precision, measure and sum each wall individually.
What installation does the 1kg-per-roll glue estimate assume?
It assumes a typical install with both a base lining layer and the finish wallpaper. If you skip the base layer or use a different adhesive, actual usage will differ.
Should I include the ceiling if I'm wallpapering the whole room?
This calculator covers walls only, not ceilings. If you're also papering the ceiling, measure that area separately and add it to the wall area before calculating.
Cautions
- •Roll coverage figures include a standard seam/trim allowance — actual material loss can vary with installer skill.
- •Pattern-match (repeat) installs can need a loss rate above 20% depending on the pattern's repeat length.
- •The 1kg-per-roll glue estimate assumes a base-plus-finish install; adhesive type and method will change actual usage.
- •Ceiling area is not included — measure and add it separately if needed.
- •Confirm actual roll dimensions with your supplier before ordering.
